I have been drawn to the tarot and the mystical parts of life since I was about 10 but was unable to learn or practice any of it until I reached my early 40s. At that time, I went through tremendous loss and had to start all over again, and this allowed me to adopt a more spiritual path. I have studied the tarot keenly since 2010, with a variety of teachers, courses and books and I read it intuitively. I use it as part of my daily life and have ambitions to write about it to share my knowledge with others. The tarot is an amazing thing and I have many decks that work well for me. I have done lots of readings by email and in person at fairs and shops, and now that Psychic Sofa has recruited me as a tarot reader, I'm going to enjoy doing them by telephone!
What do you like most about giving readings to clients?
Doing something good for someone else and putting something positive back into the world by helping others. Also, leaving people with messages from the cards to think about after their reading can be very powerful too. Tarot might seem like instant wisdom at the time, but what it teaches us can last a long time, in fact a lifetime for some of us.
How would you say you are typical of your star sign?
I'm a Cancerian through and through! I have lots of time, care, patience and compassion for others and I'm a very good listener; people find me easy to talk to - they always have done. I also have Sagittarius rising in my chart, which reflects my interest in the higher mind and spiritual topics. It is my belief that all of these things come together to good effect when I do my tarot readings.
When do you remember being first aware of your gift?
I could feel and intuit things happening ever since I was a teenager and like many readers here, these types of experiences have run in my family. However, the gifts have been ignored for many generations, until they reached philosophical me with my Sagittarian ascendant. When I did my very first tarot reading for my earliest tarot teacher in 2010, that was when I had these gifts confirmed directly.
What is your most memorable experience with a client?
A guy came to me describing himself as a liberal-minded, free-thinking, Christian ghost-hunter and said he had never had a tarot reading before. Since he claimed he was liberal-minded and interested in ghosts, I imagined that he would have a good reading. I did a reading for him and at the end of it he said it was 'mind-blowing'. It was such a good experience to read for someone coming to the cards with openness and enthusiasm and it was lovely to have such memorable feedback.
What other experiences or qualifications do you have that you feel compliment your work as a reader?
I'm experienced in listening and talking to people in states of emotional distress and despair. This kind of experience has come from the voluntary sector. And although I am not 'formally' qualified in numerology or astrology, I have a great interest in these topics and have a good knowledge of both of them and how they may shape a tarot reading.
What is the most important thing for a person to consider when they decide to have a psychic reading?
Like a lot of readers answering this question, I believe that keeping an open mind is the most important thing. But trusting the cards is also important. The cards routinely give good advice, but it is up to you whether you accept it and act on it - free will, as they say. Sometimes the tarot will whisper the answers, and if you ignore them, the next time they will shout them instead!
